China urged the United States to immediately end the blockade and all forms of coercion and pressure against Cuba, which undermine the Cuban people’s right to survival and development, stated Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun in a press conference on Thursday, June 25.
The spokesperson made these remarks in response to a media question regarding the announcement from the US Department of State on June 23, which imposed sanctions on five entities and one individual for generating income for the Cuban government, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency.
Guo indicated that China opposes unlawful unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law.
«We strongly support Cuba in exploring a socialist development path suitable to its national conditions, and we firmly back Cuba in defending its sovereignty and national security while opposing external interference,» the spokesperson emphasized.
«We call upon the United States to immediately end the blockade against Cuba and to stop violating the rights of the Cuban people to survival and development,» expressed the Chinese government representative.
