At the heart of controversy in Argentina is libertarian senator Joaquín Benegas Lynch, closely aligned with President Milei, who faces significant backlash for owning a company that sells land to foreigners while simultaneously voting on related legislation currently under discussion in Parliament.

This situation presents a conflict of interest that extends to Chile, where the legal representation of the aforementioned company, Glocal Terra, is handled by lawyer Max Kaiser, brother of former presidential candidate Johannes Kaiser.

In the Argentine Congress, senator Juliana Di Tullio from Unión por la Patria has formally raised concerns to the Senate presidency, stating that the situation represents a «serious conflict of interest» and has called for Benegas to refrain from participating in parliamentary debates, signing reports, or casting his vote on this initiative.

According to a report from Perfil, senator Benegas Lynch «founded Glocal Terra in 2020 with his wife, Eloisa Perea Muñoz, and the company is located at 700 Santa Fe Avenue, Buenos Aires. The firm promotes itself as specializing in investment advice and property management, offering services including the search, appraisal, and management of rural properties.»

In this context, senator Di Tullio based her request on the principles established by the Argentine Constitution and the provisions of Law 25.188 regarding Ethics in Public Service.

Additionally, the legislator emphasized that according to the founding document cited in her statement, Benegas Lynch is listed as the managing partner of Glocal Terra SRL: «Any modification, relaxation, or regulation of the current norms directly impacts the business volume, billing, and profits of the company with which he is associated, compromising the impartiality of any position or vote he might cast on the matter,» claimed Di Tullio.

We will continue to provide updates.
