On the eve of the presidential runoff that will determine the next leader of Chile, two iconic voices in urban music and rap have come together to deliver a powerful message. Ana Tijoux and Pablo Chill-E launched «Joven de la pobla» this week, a song that functions as a political and social manifesto, explicitly targeting Republican Party candidate José Antonio Kast.
The collaboration, nearly four minutes in length, was announced by Pablo Chill-E on his social media channels and quickly sparked reactions due to its direct content and its music video, created with artificial intelligence. The video features iconic imagery depicting inequality, the protests of 2019, and representations of Kast with symbolism associated with Nazism, juxtaposing figures like Adolf Hitler and Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.
These visuals are interspersed with representations of environmental pollution and the explosion of the National Congress, symbolizing the social outbreak of 2019.

The core of the song serves as a stark warning about the potential consequences of a far-right government. Pablo Chill-E, echoing the spirit of his previous hit «Facts,» leaves no room for doubt about his stance: «A fascist government is not what Chile needs,» he sings, a line that has been widely quoted and discussed across digital platforms.
The track also includes sharp critiques of some of the controversial proposals put forth by the Republican candidate, presenting them as a series of warnings about the future that awaits the country if Kast reaches La Moneda.
«If you want to see your grandmother in misery, vote for Kast. If you want fewer rights for your wife, vote for Kast… Imagine if your sister gets raped… and they prohibit the right to the pill. That little angel will not be loved, but will become another victim,» the lyrics state.
In «Joven de la pobla,» both artists, known for advocating the struggles of the populace and the defense of social rights, maintain their confrontational tone and also express their rejection of inequality, the rise of the far-right, and the corruption embedded within Chilean institutions.
«How many good people have been blamed in court, there are many more thieves in the Senate,» the song asserts, highlighting how the national anthem faces a reality that threatens «that sea that calmly bathes you,» reflects the lyrics.
«That sea that calmly bathes you, full of trash due to the Piraña,» it adds at another point.
In their collaboration, Ana Tijoux and Pablo Chill-E also target right-wing figures such as Joaquín Lavín Jr., Andrés Chadwick, Johannes Kaiser, and Carlos Larraín, whom they label as «the pimps of the state.»
Toward the end of the song, they echo a sentiment similar to that from the previous runoff between Gabriel Boric and the Republican candidate: «The Jara is not preferable, but Kast is unthinkable.»
The release of «Joven de la pobla» adds to a series of statements from urban artists against a potential Kast government, illustrating how the electoral landscape has deeply permeated popular culture, transforming art into another battleground for the vision of Chile’s future.
