Original article: Bachelet rumbo a la ONU: Se reunió con Macron en Francia y en junio visitaría a Putin en Rusia
Former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet is actively pursuing her candidacy for the UN Secretary-General, which recently brought her to Paris for a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Geopolitically, this meeting is significant as France is one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, alongside the United States, China, the United Kingdom, and Russia. These countries also hold the power to veto Bachelet’s candidacy for the position she seeks.
Bachelet shared insights about the meeting on her Instagram account, stating, «We had a valuable conversation with President Macron about the key challenges facing the international community today and my vision for the future of the United Nations as part of my candidacy for Secretary-General,» revealed the former head of state.
She elaborated that during their discussion, «I shared the conviction that we need a strengthened UN, one capable of responding more effectively to global challenges, promoting peace, defending human rights, advancing sustainable development, and restoring people’s trust in multilateralism.»
In this context, various national and international media have reported that Bachelet aims to meet with leaders of all the countries that have veto power on the Security Council, which is why she plans to travel to Russia in early June to meet with President Vladimir Putin.
We will continue to provide updates.
