In a public statement, the Confederation of Banking and Financial Unions condemned the «offensive and violent expressions» of economist David Bravo (pictured), a member of the Labor Reactivation Table convened by the government, who «blatantly labeled the working class as a burden.»
The organization described this as an «intolerable assault on national dignity: David Bravo’s comments insult the morale of millions of families maintaining the country.»
«This explicit contempt only resonates with the most retrograde factions of society, conservative sectors yearning to reverse history to eradicate social achievements that took decades of civilizational struggle,» the statement noted.
The Confederation emphasized that the «true gravity lies in the fact that this disdain comes from an official institutional voice. It exposes the ruthless ideology that drives them: a mercantile vision that aims to normalize job creation at any cost, trampling on the most basic rights under the pretext of economic efficiency.»
According to the banking and financial union, the so-called Labor Reactivation Table, established in May by the Ministry of Labor, has been «captured by academic gatekeepers of the market model» and now serves as the «vanguard of this offensive.»
«In record time, they articulated a package of 22 measures that use cosmetic subsidies for women and youth as a smokescreen to mask an aggressive deregulation of employer responsibilities,» the workers criticized.
Another aspect highlighted by the Confederation of Banking and Financial Unions was what they termed the «most destructive core» of the Labor Reactivation Table’s report: «the abolition of severance pay for years of service.»
«This historic right is the only barrier against arbitrary employer actions and establishes work as a fundamental right. To attempt to replace it with a fund derived from unemployment insurance is a crude maneuver to relieve employers of their financial responsibilities, granting them total impunity to execute mass layoffs at the whims of the market,» the statement emphasized.
