Original article: Casen 2026: U. de Chile vuelve a adjudicarse ejecución de encuesta en más de 75 mil viviendas del país
The Ministry of Social Development, through the Undersecretariat for Social Evaluation, has awarded the bid for the Casen 2026 survey to the Microdata Center (CMD) of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Chile.
With this award, the CMD establishes itself as the most experienced entity in carrying out this project, marking its fourteenth participation in the most significant social measurement tool utilized by the state, which has been in place since 1987. The only versions not conducted by CMD are from 2009, 2017, and 2019.
The survey will take place in person from November 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027. Prior to this, a pilot survey will be conducted in the regions of O’Higgins, Biobío, and the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, scheduled to run from July 13 to August 9.
In this regard, CMD Director Lorena Flores emphasized that «the Casen Survey is the largest tool the state has to evaluate social policy, thus it will be crucial in determining the future goals of the current government, as well as those of subsequent administrations.»
«The impact of this study is so significant at a national level that our team takes this responsibility very seriously, and we are already executing the initial phases of the process,» added Lorena Flores.
It is important to note that the data collected in the Casen Survey provides indicators on income distribution, health, education, housing, employment, and poverty—both in terms of income and multidimensional measures—serving as valuable input for evaluating and designing public policies in Chile.
