This Friday, Beijing commemorated the 55th anniversary of Ping-Pong Diplomacy between China and the United States. The event was jointly organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the General Administration of Sports of China, and China Media Group.
During the 55th anniversary celebration of Ping-Pong Diplomacy, Shen Haixiong, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and president of China Media Group, reiterated that CMG will continue to promote cultural exchanges, technological cooperation, and the friendship between China and the United States. At the event, a documentary produced by the organization highlighting sports exchanges between the two nations premiered.
Attendees emphasized that a simple ping-pong ball acted as a catalyst for breaking the ice and initiating the normalization of relations between China and the United States. They reiterated that, after 55 years of ups and downs, Ping-Pong Diplomacy has transcended the realm of sports and has become a symbol of friendship between the two countries, urging continued efforts to build a community with a shared future for humanity.
More than 500 people participated in the commemoration, including representatives from governments and institutions from both China and the United States, officials from international organizations, eyewitnesses to Ping-Pong Diplomacy, prominent sports figures, media representatives, and youth from both nations. A series of sports exchange activities between Chinese and American youth was also launched.
