Chilean Government Confirms Kast Met with Peter Thiel: «Brief and Merely Protocolar»

The Chilean government has confirmed that President José A. Kast held a meeting with controversial tech entrepreneur Peter Thiel (of Palantir Technologies) at La Moneda last May. This information was revealed following an official inquiry made by Deputy Gonzalo Winter (FA), but it did not include specifics about the topics discussed during the meeting.

«The meeting in question indeed took place at La Moneda. It was brief and purely procedural,» states the government’s response. Furthermore, it emphasizes that «in any case, the subjects addressed during this meeting pertain to matters of the President of the Republic, which are covered by constitutional guarantee 19, No. 5 of the Political Constitution of the Republic, ensuring the inviolability of private communications.»

Additionally, La Moneda officials reminded that the President «is not a passive subject of lobbying as he is explicitly excluded from Law No. 20,730 (…). Consequently, there is no obligation to maintain an agenda or keep records of this information,» stresses the letter signed by the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency, José García Ruminot.

«We Will Continue to Insist»

After receiving the official response, Deputy Gonzalo Winter remarked that the document «failed to clarify the most important points: why they met and what topics were discussed?»

«We are talking about one of the most influential businesspeople in the world, with immense power in technology, data, and artificial intelligence. These are issues of clear public interest that could involve strategic decisions for Chile,» emphasized Winter, who announced that he would continue to push for greater transparency on this matter.

«We will keep insisting. What does the President of Chile have to discuss with someone who has repeatedly stated that freedom and democracy are incompatible?» questioned the leftist parliamentarian.
