Under the premise that they «pose a danger to society«, the Chilean Network Against Violence Towards Women demanded that abusers of women be removed from public office.
In a statement on their social media, they highlighted that it is «unacceptable» for political figures who have committed violence against women to hold positions of power, representation, or public office.
«Abusers of women are a danger to society, and it is unacceptable for them to hold important public and political positions,» they stated.

The organization referred to the specific cases of three politicians who have faced allegations of sexual violence, physical abuse, economic, and symbolic violence, among other offenses.
Firstly, they recalled that Ricardo Rincón, whose name has been considered for a potential ambassadorial position for Chile in Panama, was found guilty by the 16th Civil Court of Santiago for domestic violence against his then partner in 2002.
Rincón verbally and later physically assaulted her, as corroborated before the courts through witnesses, medical certification, and injury verification.
“In Rincón’s case, he was expelled from the PDC in 2018, following the revelation of the severity of the events,” the organization reminded.
Furthermore, they also mentioned the case of Álvaro Ortiz, recently elected president of the Christian Democratic Party, who was convicted in January 2010 for domestic violence.
According to reports, the complaint was filed by the partner of the then-councilor.
Judge Mireya Celis, head of the Family Court of Concepción, ruled that Ortiz Vera was responsible for the acts charged against him and ordered him to pay a fine benefiting the Government amounting to 2 UTM. He was also mandated to undergo treatment for impulse control and aggression.
The third individual referenced by the feminist organization is Matías Huerta, who was recently hired by the Regional Government of Maule, led by Pedro Pablo Álvarez-Salamanca (UDI), at a «salary exceeding 5 million pesos».
This decision has sparked widespread criticism, as in 2016, during his campaign for councilor in Talca, Huerta was accused of committing physical and verbal abuse against his then-partner.
The case exploded after a controversial audio surfaced in which he was heard hurling insults and threats at the young woman, while she pleaded for him not to hit her again.
The incident, later acknowledged by Huerta, ultimately cost him not only his candidacy for the Municipal Council but also his membership in the UDI.
In addition to demanding the removal of abusers from public office, the Chilean Network Against Violence Towards Women has urged both the Chilean State and political parties to commit unconditionally to the human rights of women and girls.
