Original article: Grecia: Incluyen a poeta mapuche en antología «Bolívar, eres bello como un griego»
Chilean poet and educator Maribel Mora Curriao has been included in the anthology «Bolívar, You Are Beautiful Like a Greek,» which showcases renowned poets from Latin America and the Caribbean.
This edition is curated by Greek poet, translator, and essayist Agathi Dimitrouka, a prominent advocate for Hispanic American literature in Greece.
The anthology’s title pays tribute to the liberator Simón Bolívar, linking the independence movements in Latin America with the Greek fight for independence, and it draws from verses by poet Nikos Engonópulos.
Mora Curriao’s poetry contributes to this editorial project by enriching the dialogue between Mapuche and Greek traditions, reflecting parallels between the Mapuche history and daily life and both ancient and modern Greek poetry.
The anthology also features works from five other Chilean poets, whether residing in the country or abroad: Mario Meléndez, Jaime Huenún, Alejandra Basualto, Andrés Morales, Jaime Svart, Beatriz Hausner, and Sergio Mansilla.
Spanning 540 pages, the anthology compiles poems by Latin American poets who explore Greek culture or contemporary Greece. Mora Curriao’s contribution consists of eight poems from her second book, «Müna Wedake Warria Mew or the Unnameable Cities,» published in Chile in 2023 by AndesGraund Publishing.
