Original article: La segunda mayor caída a nivel mundial: Confianza de los consumidores de Chile baja a 7,5 en el mes de abril según IPSOS
With a decrease of 7.5 points, Chile’s Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) has fallen to 41.3 points in April, marking its lowest level in a year and a half.
(IPSOS) This month, the index for Chile experienced a significant breakdown in confidence following a brief period of optimism in the previous measurement, as the sentiment among Chileans settled at 41.3 points, dropping 7.5 points in just one month. This downturn, exceeded only by Thailand (-10.9 points), places Chile at the 24th position among the 30 economies surveyed.
The Global Consumer Confidence Index from Ipsos declined by 2.7 points this month, standing at 46.7. Many countries appear to be suffering adverse effects due to the ongoing war between the United States and Iran, which has now entered its seventh week.
This decline represents the second largest historical drop, only surpassed by April 2020 (the first reading following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic). Furthermore, it marks the second occasion where the index has fluctuated by at least two points. Currently, it sits one point below its value from the same period last year.
Of the 30 economies analyzed, twenty countries have shown significant declines in consumer confidence, while none reported a notable increase. All four sub-indices experienced considerable drops this month.
Each region demonstrates a decrease in confidence this month. However, the largest drop was noted in the Asia-Pacific region, with five of the six largest declines originating from this area: Thailand (-10.9 points), Malaysia (-6.1 points), South Korea (-5.1 points), Japan (-4.7 points), and Australia (-4.6 points).
Consumer confidence also saw a dramatic fall in Europe, as nine countries reported significant decreases this month: Italy (-4.4 points), Ireland (-4.3 points), Belgium (-4.2 points), Spain (-4.1 points), France (-3.9 points), Germany (-2.9 points), the Netherlands (-2.8 points), Great Britain (-2.7 points), and Poland (-2.7 points).
The Global Consumer Confidence Index is the average of the overall national indices of all surveyed countries. This month’s report is based on a monthly survey conducted with over 21,000 adults under 75 years old from 30 countries via Ipsos’ Global Advisor online platform.
This survey was held between March 20 and April 3, 2026.
