Original article: Cineteca de la U. de Chile recupera desconocido documental sobre el poeta Rodrigo Lira: Incluye testimonios recogidos a pocos meses de su suicidio
On Thursday, June 25, at 6 PM, the Cineteca of the University of Chile will premiere the documentary «Rodrigo Lira» during a special event titled «This Text is Out of Context: Film and Literature in Carlos Flores.» The film, restored as part of an extensive archival investigation by the filmmaker, highlights Lira’s impactful legacy.
This documentary presents a collective portrait featuring friends and acquaintances discussing the complexities of a vital poet of the 1980s national scene, whose tragic fate left a significant mark on a generation.
«He was someone who tested the capacity to destabilize behavioral codes in interpersonal relationships,» recalled Enrique Lihn years later, reflecting on their close yet fragmented friendship.
After his death in late 1981, Lira left behind a haunting collection of poems that has established him as a cult figure, inspiring new generations of writers.
The documentary will be screened alongside «Pepe Donoso» (1977), another piece produced by Foco Films and directed by Flores, which chronicles the novelist’s return after years abroad on a journey into his own memory. Following both screenings, there will be a film forum with the filmmaker.
