The board of the Professionals Union of Codelco’s Chuquicamata Division has reiterated its position regarding the alleged copper overproduction within the state-owned company, affirming that «no underpaid bonuses exist» as a result of this situation.
The professionals released a document outlining the technical justifications that, in their view, confirm the compliance of the 20,000 tons of oxides in Chuquicamata that are under scrutiny, following claims that they had been incorrectly reported as finished products for the 2025 fiscal year.
According to the Union, this mineral «is available for immediate processing while adhering to environmental and safety regulations and having a testing protocol signed between the Chuquicamata and Radomiro Tomic Divisions.»
«As the union board, we are uncertain about what is needed for this mineral to be processed and generate the $20 million in promised profitability. Consequently, we see no basis for a return as there are no underpaid bonuses in our division,» the union representatives added.
In addition, the professionals from Chuquicamata expressed that since the external audit on this matter has been entrusted to KPMG, «we find it advisable that the process be conducted with the highest standards of transparency and independence, particularly given that the current chair of the Audit Committee previously had a professional relationship with the firm.»
For the Union, this context warrants transparency «to safeguard public trust, without calling into question their future actions, but it should be a known factor for everyone,» they emphasized.
