In a video shared on his social media platforms, presidential candidate Iván Cepeda of the Historical Pact responded to alarming information disclosed by President Gustavo Petro. He announced that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States possesses specific intelligence regarding a potential assassination plot targeting him.
Cepeda noted that he had previously received credible threats regarding assassination attempts but chose to exercise caution to prevent public panic. He firmly stated: “Under no circumstances will I abandon my political work or my electoral campaign. I urge my supporters, my teams, and the citizens who will vote for me to double our efforts and not give in to terror.” While maintaining his campaign schedule, Cepeda described the current situation as “serious and grave” and announced his intention to request a detailed report from authorities on the evidence collected.

The candidate urged the forces supporting the process of change in the country not to succumb to violence. The National Government, through Interior Minister Armando Benedetti, has strengthened the security measures for the 13 presidential candidates, deploying 107 members of the UNP, 160 National Police officers, 39 armored vehicles, 29 conventional vehicles, and 29 protective vests.
In a large gathering in Bacayá, Iván Cepeda addressed the audience, declaring: “Zero Fear. We are brave men and women, forged in the thousands of struggles that have taken away our fear. No sinister plans or threats can halt Colombia’s second progressive government. We will win in the first round on March 31.”
Following the disclosure of a potential assassination plan against her running mate, vice-presidential candidate Aída Quilcue took to social media, stating: “We cannot permit the return of a dark Colombia marked by violence, fear, and intimidation, where thinking differently placed lives at risk. That past CANNOT repeat itself. Our path is clear: dialogue in the midst of differences and collective building from diverse thoughts. This Colombia is for everyone, and all of us belong in it.”
Quilcue concluded her statement with these emphatic words: “Friend Iván, we walk together with the strength of the people, defending the life, dignity, and hope of a country that does not surrender. THEY SHALL NOT PASS!” The vice-presidential candidate firmly rejected any attempts at intimidation.
