Original article: Petro apunta a Netanyahu, «el genocida», por operación con IA en Colombia tras resultado electoral: “Millones cayeron bajo la mentira”
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has directed harsh criticism at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, labeling him a genocidal figure and accusing him of financing an operation that utilized artificial intelligence (AI) to interfere in Colombia’s presidential elections. Petro claimed that «millions fell into the trap».
In a message shared on social media platform X, the president posted a cover of The Economist, featuring the headline: «Bots Meet Voters» and raising the question of «How to Combat the Negative Impact of AI?»
According to the progressive leader, «the cover of The Economist reflects the reality of what has happened in Colombia», where far-right candidate Abelardo de la Espriella was declared the winner of the runoff election by a narrow margin of 0.96% over Pacto Histórico candidate Iván Cepeda. This occurred amidst allegations of international interference, primarily from former President Donald Trump, as well as claims of vote-buying and irregularities involving the software used in vote counting.
Petro held both Netanyahu, the former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández (who has been convicted of drug trafficking in the U.S. and pardoned by Trump), and far-right Argentine President Javier Milei responsible for financing AI as part of a disinformation campaign designed to sway voters in the runoff.
«The operation financed from abroad by Netanyahu, the genocider, the drug trafficker Juan Orlando Hernández, and President Milei, whose economic program they copied, wins,» Petro articulated.
«You can already deduce. Millions of Colombians fell for the lie of artificial intelligence funded by dollars,» he declared.
It is essential to remember that recently, Petro warned that the computer system used during the electoral process may have been compromised and suggested that the State of Israel might be behind this operation.
Specifically, he referred to modifications allegedly detected in the IP addresses of servers linked to the national registry, potentially compromising the integrity of the data transmission and processing of electoral data.
He stated that following the runoff, «we have evidence of a change in the IP addresses of several servers in the national registry. This means that the software has been compromised, and others have recorded data for polling stations.» He concluded: «The only entity in the world capable of doing that is the State of Israel.»
The president recalled that he has long questioned the security of the software employed by Colombian electoral authorities and asserted that independent audits he requested had never been approved.
Through his account on social media X, the president shared a technical document which he claimed demonstrates security flaws in the system used by Thomas Greg & Sons, linked to brothers Camilo and Fernando Bautista, that could have compromised the transparency of the democratic process.
The progressive leader also pointed out that the algorithms that «make the Bautista brothers’ software vulnerable» allow powerful states with computational capabilities to replace Colombian voters.
Additionally, he suggested that by deciding not to allow a thorough audit of the electoral software, as he himself requested, «this terrible vulnerability went undiscovered, and a potential defeat of progressivism was preferred over national sovereignty.»
