Original article: Humor, clásicos y música en vivo se toman la cartelera de julio en Sala La Comedia de Teatro ICTUS

Comedy, classic plays, and live music will dominate the program in July at Sala La Comedia, Teatro ICTUS (Merced 349, Santiago), featuring the productions «The Clowns of Hope» and «The Groom’s Suit,» along with the improvisational theater show «Moyita and Panqueque,» and a live performance by indie musician LARÓ.

Below is a brief overview of each offering.

The Clowns of Hope

A classic of Chilean theater from the late 1970s, written by actor Mauricio Pesutic and Raul Osorio at the Theater Research Workshop of the U. Católica. The play is notable for its use of tenderness and humor to combat marginalization and maintain dignity in adverse contexts. In the 1980s, actor Roberto Poblete joined, solidifying a cast that traveled across Chile and various international stages.

This season’s cast includes Simón Pesutic, Vivianne Dietz, and Germán Pinilla, who portray Tony Pelusita, Tony Cucharón, and Tony Liberty, under the direction of Roberto Farías. The story revolves around three unemployed clowns who, while awaiting job opportunities, share their experiences and teach an apprentice the craft. The narrative balances comedic and emotional moments, reflecting on resilience and hope.

A timeless classic, it remains relevant due to its social sensitivity and deep connection with audiences.

The Groom’s Suit

This play will have five performances, every Sunday in July. It has previously filled the venue with its intimate and contemporary exploration of universal questions about the marks left by the past, the decisions that shape our lives, and the ability (or inability) to close cycles.

«It’s a work that, beneath the appearance of a lively and contemporary comedy, reflects on emotional memory and how it conditions our present, connecting directly with the idea of resilience as an act of remembrance,» comments Héctor Morales, the director.

Featuring the performances of Diana Sanz and Guilherme Sepúlveda, the production tells an intimate story of a reunion and the attempt to mend an unjustly broken relationship due to the tragic, often hidden consequences of child kidnappings in Chile during the military dictatorship.

«The Groom’s Suit» won the XX National Drama Showcase, an initiative funded by the National Fund for the Promotion and Development of the Performing Arts.
