Uncertainty surrounding the funding of the Energy Sustainability Agency (AgenciaSE) has put workers and beneficiaries of public programs, impacting over 68,000 individuals nationwide, on high alert.
This situation arises amid delays in fund transfers promised by the Ministry of Energy and the lack of clarity regarding the 2026 Program Agreement, a crucial instrument for the continued operation of the agency.
According to information provided by the Union of Workers of AgenciaSE, pending transfers exceed $4.936 million, funds allocated for the execution of energy efficiency, sustainability, and energy transition initiatives implemented across various regions of the country.
The scenario is further complicated by personnel reductions observed during 2026. The union states that over 30% of the agency’s workforce has been let go in recent months, raising concerns about the institution’s capability to sustain ongoing programs.
Adding to the turmoil, the Executive Director of AgenciaSE, Jorge Parada, resigned on the night of June 2nd, following the departure of the Deputy Director, Cristina Victoriano, on May 19th. Both resignations come amidst the challenging financial and operational climate faced by the agency.
«The continuity of these programs hinges on the certainty of the committed resources and the future of the institution and its employees,» stated Dominique Zaio, president of the Union of Workers of the Energy Sustainability Agency.
Established by the Ministry of Energy in 2010, AgenciaSE has aimed to implement public policies promoting energy efficiency and sustainability. For over 15 years, it has executed programs targeting households, municipalities, educational institutions, and productive sectors, contributing to reduced energy consumption, improved quality of life, and progression towards the country’s climate goals.
Among the initiatives at risk are Casa Solar, which facilitates access to photovoltaic systems for families; Mejor Escuela, focused on the thermal improvement of educational establishments; Mi Taxi Eléctrico, which promotes the incorporation of electric vehicles in public transport through co-funding for taxi and shared taxi drivers; and Comuna Energética, benefiting multiple municipalities across the country.
The union warned that financial uncertainty is also affecting institutional planning, the execution of ongoing projects, and the stability of the professional teams responsible for implementing these public policies in the field.
In this context, the organization has called on the Ministry of Energy to provide clarity regarding the committed resources and the agency’s future, emphasizing that the continuity of programs and the benefits received by thousands depend on a swift resolution of the situation.
We will continue to provide updates.
