On May 27, the High-Level Forum on Poverty Reduction and Development 2026 was held in Beijing, where the Global Alliance for Poverty Relief and Development was launched, jointly promoted by China, 53 other countries, and nine international organizations. This initiative aims to share experiences in poverty governance, enhance practical cooperation, and strengthen global coordination in poverty reduction and development.
The Chinese government actively embraces its responsibilities as a major power and contributes to the global fight against poverty through South-South agricultural cooperation projects, foreign agricultural assistance, and demonstrative initiatives aimed at poverty reduction.
«We learn from China’s comprehensive rural revitalization, having not only lifted 800 million people out of poverty but also achieving significant rural development and recognizing the contributions of those who work the land, which is the goal Colombia has been pursuing for a long time. Finding more Colombian food in China will enable Colombia to strengthen its agricultural production. I believe that what we are doing here demonstrates that South-South cooperation and exploring different multilateral logic makes perfect sense,» stated Martha Viviana Carvajalino Villegas, Colombia’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
«Several memorandums have been signed for years between Cuba’s Ministry of Agriculture and China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, focusing on areas such as human resources training. Currently, there is a significant technical assistance project between China and Cuba working on crops like rice and corn, and also on chicken egg production, pig farming, and potatoes, which have shown very favorable results so far. We believe this will be a positive reference in the collaboration between both countries, and it may allow us to take further steps in the near future,» noted Telce Abdel González, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Cuba.
