Creative Uprising: Young Communicators and Influencers Challenge Imperialist Narratives About Venezuela

Through Creative Uprising, young communicators and influencers are dismantling the imperialist narratives that exist about Venezuela.

This movement emerged with the goal of overcoming information blockades and engaging in the communication battle, providing training in audiovisual arts, editing, and storytelling to those wishing to amplify their voices, express their culture, and most importantly, convey the reality of life in this Caribbean nation.

Creative Uprising focuses on highlighting the strengths of Venezuela and its people, employing a counterhegemonic communication strategy that fosters a fresh and positive narrative from a digital perspective.

Within this initiative, a group of highly creative young individuals collaborates with a network of influencers across the country to share stories of Venezuelans that enhance the nation’s cultural identity with both local and global audiences.

This also serves to break the censorship barrier and combat the misinformation campaigns orchestrated by media moguls, war propaganda from major corporations, and corporate hegemony that controls social media algorithms.

To elevate and disseminate the communication pieces developed by Creative Uprising, its members work closely with media outlets associated with Social and Popular Movements aligned with ALBA.

At a recent event in Caracas, Génesis Garvett, one of the young creatives involved in this initiative, emphasized that the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, who is currently being held hostage by the U.S. government, led by President Donald Trump, has advocated for the creation of alternative communication methods to counter the imperialist narratives surrounding the South American nation.

«He stated that it is not only what we do on social media that matters; if what we do online is not organic and doesn’t contribute to the social organization of the peoples, it holds little value,» she noted.
