Original article: La calculadora le pasa la cuenta a Quiroz: queda entre los ministros peor evaluados de Kast
The polling firm Criteria released the findings of its latest survey, which examined public perception of the cabinet members under President José Antonio Kast, revealing that Minister of Finance Jorge Quiroz is one of the least favored ministers.
According to the Agenda Criteria poll conducted on June 14, 2026, 64% of respondents are familiar with the head of the public purse, reflecting an increase of 7 percentage points (p.p.) since the last measurement. However, only 37% provided a «positive» or «very positive» opinion about his management.

This places him second to last in support among ministers with a recognition rate of 30% or more, only ahead of the Minister of Energy, Ximena Rincón, who has a mere 36% favorable opinions.
Quiroz is the key proponent, along with Kast, of the proposed comprehensive economic-tax reform currently under debate in Congress— which includes controversial measures like reducing the corporate tax rate from 27% to 23%, eliminating the stock market capital gains tax, implementing a tax credit for formal employment, and a 25-year tax invariability for investments exceeding $50 million—all of which are opposed by 36% of respondents according to Criteria.
Since March 11, the far-right government under Quiroz’s finance leadership has implemented several controversial and criticized measures, including a 3% budget cut to ministries, a historic increase in fuel prices termed the «gas price hike,» and limiting university tuition waivers strictly to students under 30 years. Additionally, it has intensified the financial scrutiny of borrowers under the State Guaranteed Credit (CAE) and applied tax reductions for businesses.
These survey results come after the finance chief acknowledged last week before the Senate Finance Committee that the Kast government will not achieve fiscal balance during its term, nor meet the 4% growth target promised during the campaign.
According to the Fiscal Policy Decree, the deficit is expected to decrease from 2.6% in 2026 to 1.8% in 2027, then to 1.7% in 2028, 1.6% in 2029, and finally 1.5% in 2030, with no year reflecting the promised surplus.
During the parliamentary session, the state secretary indicated that, per the new projections from La Moneda, the Chilean economy is expected to grow by 3% in 2027 and 2028, then rise to 3.5% only in 2030, well below the 4% threshold that the far-right president had set as a goal by the end of his term.
«Our aspiration has always been to reach 4%, but once again we are being cautious with the projections,» Quiroz admitted.

According to the opinion poll—a total sample of 802 cases—the evaluation of José Antonio Kast’s management as president of Chile has not improved, with disapproval increasing by five percentage points, now at 52%, marking the second-worst figure since the far-right leader took office on March 11. Meanwhile, approval stands at 39%, reflecting a one percentage point drop from the previous measurement.
