The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, made it clear that the Caribbean nation will not bow down to military threats from Washington, stating that his people are «determined to defend their sovereignty and independence».

Through his official account on social media X, he denounced the escalation of threats against the South American nation from U.S. President Donald Trump.

«The U.S. President is elevating his threats of military aggression against Cuba to a dangerous and unprecedented level,» he stated after the Republican magnate claimed last Friday that he would «take control of Cuba» «almost immediately».

During his speech at a private dinner in West Palm Beach, Florida, he indicated that after finishing the war he is waging alongside Israel against Iran, he might send the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to the Caribbean to make it «stop about 100 meters off the coast» of Cuba, from where island residents, according to his words, would say, «thank you very much, we surrender».

On the same day, the White House occupant announced the approval of new measures aimed at increasing pressure on Cuba, intensifying the economic, commercial, and financial blockade, as well as the energy blockade imposed at the end of January, which completely banned the entry of oil to the island.

This decision, justified on the grounds that Havana poses a threat to U.S. national security, allowed the imposition of tariffs on goods from countries that sell or supply oil to the island nation, resulting in power outages lasting up to 20 hours a day and jeopardizing sensitive sectors like health, food supply, and the safety of the inhabitants of this Latin American nation.

The new sanctions imposed by the far-right specifically target foreign banks that cooperate with the Cuban government, impose stricter immigration restrictions, and block assets on U.S. territory for those who operate or have operated in Cuba’s energy, mining, defense, or security sectors, or have provided material, financial, or technological support to Havana.

Díaz-Canel: «No aggressor, no matter how powerful, will find surrender in Cuba»

In his message shared on social media, the Cuban president stated that the escalation of aggression responds to the interests of a small but economically powerful group with political influence that acts out of «desires for revenge and domination».

He also called on the international community to take note of this escalation and to speak out against it. He urged people around the world, particularly the American people, to decide whether to allow the realization of such a criminal act of vast magnitude.

However, he asserted that in such a scenario, “no aggressor, no matter how powerful, will find surrender in Cuba” and assured that the aggressive forces will encounter «a people determined to defend their sovereignty and independence at every inch of national territory».

Last Friday, Díaz-Canel stated, “Fear does not eat here”, while leading a march in Havana for Labor Day, alongside former President Raúl Castro Ruz.

«All united, closely knit, we demand peace and reiterate our readiness for unconditional dialogue,» he said on that occasion.
