Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodríguez ramped up pressure for the lifting of sanctions and blockade imposed by the United States on the South American nation and announced a salary increase for workers, set to be revealed on May 1.

In a national address, Rodríguez, who has assumed leadership after the abduction of constitutional President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores under orders from U.S. President Donald Trump, announced a nationwide mobilization lasting 12 days against the unilateral coercive measures.

I call for a massive pilgrimage to end the sanctions against Venezuela from April 19 to May 1. All economic, political, and social sectors, let us unite our voices in a single cry,” she stated during her speech broadcast on state channel VTV.

“I urge all political sectors to set aside differences and join together in a grand pilgrimage to fight collectively,” she expressed from the Miraflores Palace.

The call for mobilization coincided with a recent study by the pollster Hinterlaces, which revealed that 93% of Venezuelans surveyed support the repeal of sanctions against the country; only 4% were opposed, while the rest either did not know or did not respond.

Salary Increase Effective May 1

During her message, Delcy Rodríguez announced that starting May 1, a salary increase for workers will go into effect and emphasized that it would be a «responsible and sustainable» adjustment, avoiding past schemes that led to hyperinflation, as reported by TeleSUR.

The interim president noted that the indexed income model serves as a tool to prevent “false increases” that lack funding sources and ultimately harm workers in the short term.

She indicated that more increases are expected “as Venezuela has more resources that allow for the sustainability” of this measure.

In her speech, she also announced that starting April 8, the Labor Dialogue Commission has been established, which will include the Labor and Social Security Constituent Assembly.

This body, composed of the state, the private sector, workers, and pensioners, aims to develop a new social protection system.

The head of state instructed the establishment of the National Economic Council, which will be responsible for receiving proposals for a new tax model for the country.

Recovered Resources and Assets to Strengthen Social Protection

In her national address, she highlighted that the assets and financial resources of the state that are recovered after the international unblocking process will be implemented immediately to ensure the social protection of Venezuelans.

She explained that the investment plan is structured around two fundamental axes. On one side, there will be a focus on the deep rehabilitation of infrastructure for basic services—including electrical, water systems, roadways, schools, and health centers; while on the other hand, the national productive capacity will be strengthened.

Delcy Rodríguez: “Venezuela Must be Free from Blockade”

In closing, the interim president emphasized the need to rectify the damage caused by sanctions and correct internal failures to achieve collective prosperity, ensuring a fair distribution of wealth that allows for the recovery of the population’s living standards and protects the most vulnerable sectors in Venezuela.

“I ask that we correct past mistakes, we acknowledge them, and I urge against repetition; hence, I want to direct this message to the future of a Venezuela that must be free from blockade,” Rodríguez stated, who has now completed 90 days in office.
