Deputy Gustavo Gatica (Ind), along with his colleagues Marcos Barraza and Boris Barrera (both from the Communist Party), and representatives from the Pudahuel Community Union for Disability (Ucodis), visited La Moneda to publicly denounce cuts and the potential discontinuation of essential programs linked to the National Disability Service (Senadis) and Primary Health Care (APS).

During this meeting, the legislators presented a letter addressed to the President of the Republic, expressing their «deep rejection» of the reduction in funds allocated for technical aids, palliative care, home hospitalization, independent living programs, support for students with disabilities, and funding for caregivers.

«The government cannot balance the fiscal accounts at the expense of people with disabilities and their families,» Gatica stated.

«We are talking about fundamental rights, access to healthcare, medications, technical support, and palliative care. The proposed cuts directly impact the lives of thousands of individuals and their families,» added the Deputy from District 8.

Furthermore, Ucodis warned that the measures implemented by President Kast represent a serious setback in social rights and a violation of the international commitments made by Chile regarding disability and inclusion.

«Disability cannot continue to be treated as a discretionary expense. There are entire families providing care under extremely difficult conditions, and the State has an obligation to support, not abandon,» emphasized Gatica, criticizing the government’s attempt to label these measures as mere «administrative adjustments.»

«Calling the elimination of support programs an administrative adjustment is obscuring the real human impact behind an Excel spreadsheet. When palliative care or technical aids are cut, what is being reduced is quality of life, autonomy, and rights,» the legislator noted.

«I personally experience what it means to live with a disability in Chile and know the obstacles faced. That is why I feel compelled to act. I find it infinitely cruel the treatment this government has given to people with disabilities,» concluded Gustavo Gatica.
