Hassler Also Accuses of «Authoritarian Logic»

In an exclusive interview with La Voz de los que Sobran on May 28, 2026, Deputy and Economist Irací Hassler launched strong criticisms against the economic agenda pushed by the government of José Antonio Kast and Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz, accusing it of an «authoritarian logic» in the legislative process. The deputy stated that in the Lower House, «most articles didn’t even have a discussion space in the Finance Committee» due to the urgencies imposed by the ruling party, warning that the measures dismantle the state’s capacity and favor high-income sectors.
One of the most critical points raised by Hassler with La Voz de los que Sobran was the tax invariability norm, which would ensure stability in taxation for companies making investments. «A decision will be made for 25 years tying the Chilean state, binding six governments that won’t be able to make decisions regarding corporate taxes», she warned. The legislator described the proposal as «more deep and restrictive than the DL600 of the dictatorship», arguing that the minimum threshold of 50 million dollars should be indexed to GDP growth, which would equal a real threshold of 1.5 billion dollars. She also criticized that the measure does not require any compensation related to regional development or the creation of skilled jobs.
The economist detailed to La Voz de los que Sobran the impact of the tax credit, the second most expensive measure of the reform, estimated at an annual cost of 1.4 billion dollars to public finances. According to Hassler, this mechanism acts as a direct subsidy to company payrolls, decreasing as salaries increase. «It’s a way of lowering the minimum wage that companies have to pay without actually reducing it for individuals, funding it through regressive taxes like VAT», she argued. The deputy pointed out that neither the Finance Minister nor the sectorial portfolios could guarantee that this massive expenditure would generate stable new jobs.
She linked the substantive debate with the recent fiscal adjustment decrees of 3%, denouncing to La Voz de los que Sobran that the Padre Hurtado Hospital faced a cut of 100 million pesos, which would jeopardize critical bed expansion projects. Regarding the Public Finance Report, Hassler dismissed the Executive’s thesis and accused it of being a «communicational spectacle»: «It’s not that someone lied about a number that happened; the difference lies in the projection», she affirmed, backing her claims with warnings from the Independent Fiscal Council and the IMF. Finally, when asked about the Sierra Bella case, she was emphatic: «The case was definitively dismissed after more than two years of investigation. It is a legal truth that no crime exists, so we will continue to exercise our oversight role».
