Shigue Ogino, a former official from ex-UDI lawmaker Joaquín Lavín’s parliamentary team, disclosed several details about the ex-legislator’s «modus operandi» to the prosecutors. Lavín, currently in preventive detention, faces charges including tax fraud, forgery, influence peddling, and malicious use of private commercial instruments and electoral data.

This information was reported by La Tercera, which noted that Ogino, also implicated in the case, stated in his testimony that he began working with Joaquín Lavín «when he had not yet graduated and was under economic pressure.»

«He provided me with the contact of Arnaldo Domínguez, and I met with him. This first meeting took place at the beginning of October 2020. Arnaldo Domínguez informed me that my initial task was territorial. This communication was verbal. After this meeting, I accepted the job, and I was promised a payment of 500,000 pesos. In addition to this amount, I was promised an extra 25,000 pesos for a mobile phone, which I would need for my duties. I was told my workplace would be in the district office of Deputy Lavín León in Maipú,» Ogino’s statement cited by La Tercera reads.

The accused explained that his job was to «call candidates for council positions to offer them the use of the Socialtazk platform,» a mass messaging and management application developed by Lavín, which is a central part of the criminal investigation in this case because, according to the prosecutors, it was funded with public resources from Congress and misused the electoral registry.

According to Shigue Ogino’s testimony, «Romina Molina or Arnaldo Domínguez would send me databases with the phone numbers of candidates I needed to call, asking them to schedule training meetings via Zoom and telling them that these sessions would teach them how to use the Socialtazk platform, create users, and upload contacts from their own database.»

«Additionally, if a candidate had a large number of databases and it was too much work for him, we could request those databases to be entered by individuals who were working for the Chamber of Deputies in the district office, Ilse Palma and Irene Vera,» the former official detailed.
