The southern region of Iran woke up on Wednesday to the sounds of U.S. bombings, which, according to the Iranian government, have resulted in the deaths of more than thirty civilians. In response to these attacks ordered by Washington and the violation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, Tehran has decided to close the Strait of Hormuz «until further notice.»

Government spokesperson, Fatemeh Mohayerani, confirmed via social media that “more than 30 civilians have lost their lives in the attacks that occurred in the south of the country in recent days,” while local media reported at least two additional fatalities in the last few hours.

The Iranian official expressed condolences to the affected families and honored the memory of the victims, emphasizing that “the south of Iran is the heart of this land.”

The casualty toll does not only include those killed by the bombings ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump. The Iranian Ministry of Health reported over 260 injuries, highlighting the scale of attacks that have struck multiple targets in the southern Persian territory.

In an official statement, the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces confirmed that seven of their members died in an attack on a military base in Bampur, Sistan and Baluchestan province, where U.S. projectiles hit accommodations, guesthouses, and watch posts. The Army described the action as «the apex of evil» and warned that, despite the intensity of the impact, a greater number of casualties were avoided thanks to swift defensive reactions.

The Iranian military’s response was swift, and Tehran vowed a «certain and imminent» revenge for the blood of the martyrs. The military statement noted that the Islamic Republic’s Army, with support from other armed forces, would deliver a «decisive response to this aggressive action by the U.S. enemy,» as reported by HispanTV.

Closure of the Strait of Hormuz «Until Further Notice»

The closure «until further notice» of the strategic Strait of Hormuz represents Iran’s boldest move in this escalation. The decision, announced in reaction to Washington’s failure to abide by the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, places the international community on high alert. This maritime route, through which more than 20% of the world’s traded oil passes, is now a geopolitical pressure point where Tehran has made it clear that its priority is U.S. military assets in the region, warning that any new incursion will receive an even stronger response.
