The investigation into Senator Camila Flores (RN) regarding the potential crime of tax fraud in the so-called «Cuota Flores« case is intensifying. On Wednesday, OS9 police officers and the Valparaíso Regional Prosecutor’s Office conducted a search and seizure in her congressional offices. According to reports from CIPER, this operation was prompted by the substantial collaboration of a former advisor who allegedly provided bank statements and WhatsApp records that would be crucial in tracking the money that the senator is believed to have misappropriated from the salaries of her staff.

The Valparaíso Regional Prosecutor’s Office initiated this investigation following an anonymous tip claiming that during her tenure as a deputy, Flores allegedly “demanded” that part of her collaborators’ salaries be delivered in cash to cover personal expenses, a practice referred to by employees as «Cuota Flores».

This situation is reported to have persisted for at least seven years, amounting to nearly $300 million. Central to the operation was the secretary of the legislator, Yolanda Olfos, who was responsible for coordinating the collection of funds from the collaborators hired by Flores with congressional resources.

Seizure of Flores’ Computer and Cell Phone

It has been revealed that during the operation in the offices of the right-wing senator, her institutional computer, personal phone, and folders containing accounting documents were seized, along with data extraction from the Chamber’s servers.

Meanwhile, another group of Public Ministry officials traveled to her residence in Viña del Mar to carry out similar actions.

Bank Statements, WhatsApp Conversations, and Lobbying

The pivotal turning point, as reported by CIPER, has been the collaboration of former advisor JL. This witness not only testified twice before the high-complexity prosecutor of Valparaíso, Paola Castiglione, but also provided specific tools: bank statements and records of WhatsApp conversations that have allowed authorities to track the flow of the funds mentioned in the anonymous complaint that instigated the investigation.

With these elements, the prosecutor’s office no longer relies solely on testimonies but can now trace the money that Flores is alleged to have misappropriated.

The investigation into the right-wing senator has expanded following claims made by the former advisor linking her to lobbying activities related to the Notarial and Registry Reform Law, which came into effect on April 2.

The connection is not coincidental: Flores was actively involved in its processing from the Constitutional Commission of Deputies and later in the Mixed Commission, while maintaining a close relationship with the president of the Association of Notaries and Conservators, Carlos Swett, whom she has known since his time as a notary in Quilpué, the district she once represented.

The timing of the raid is also significant: on Thursday, May 7, the regional Council for the Defense of the State (CDE) will present the findings to its criminal committee. With the bank statements and WhatsApp evidence now seized, and the testimony of a former collaborator, Camila Flores’ legal situation continues to complicate.
