The legal troubles for Fernando Cerimedo, a political operator associated with far-right movements in Latin America, are escalating. Bolivia’s Attorney General announced the initiation of a fourth investigation against him concerning his alleged involvement in covering up flights connected to drug trafficking.

«The case initiated by the Controlled Substances Unit involves certain protection given in Santa Ana to irregular flights, apparently covering planes linked to the trafficking of controlled substances,» stated Alexander Mendoza, the district attorney of Beni.

As the investigation progresses, the prosecution plans to summon individuals who could provide information to clarify the situation.

«If we find further evidence not only against Fernando Cerimedo but also against private individuals or public officials, the investigation will be expanded,» Mendoza told Unitel.

Cerimedo Confronts Four Legal Cases

With this new allegation regarding drug trafficking flight cover-ups, there are now four cases open against Fernando Cerimedo, who was arrested last Tuesday at Santa Cruz airport while attempting to board a flight to Buenos Aires, just hours after a violent attack occurred against his former partner, Nadia Beller, who was shot at least three times.

In response to these incidents, the Bolivian prosecution has charged the Argentine consultant with attempted feminicide, alleging he hired «hitmen» to kill the lawyer.

The second case is related to money laundering, which was launched following multiple raids on properties belonging to Cerimedo in La Paz, where the police seized over half a million bolivianos (around $50,000 at current exchange rates), as well as dollars, euros, documents, and a «mini bot farm.»

Additionally, his connections to an international money transfer company are under scrutiny, raising questions about the origin of his wealth and potential financial irregularities.

The third case addresses domestic violence claims against his ex-partner, Nadia Beller. This was confirmed on Tuesday, adding to the previously opened cases for attempted feminicide and money laundering.

Colonel Edson Fernández, the director of the Special Force to Fight Violence (Felcv) in Santa Cruz, explained that the complaint arose from social media posts on August 18, the day after the attack on Beller, where two men disguised as delivery persons approached on a motorcycle and opened fire.

He noted that in some screenshots, the lawyer displayed a series of injuries on her body, which she claims were inflicted by Cerimedo last July.

This became public knowledge through social media, and in coordination with the prosecutors assigned to the Felcv, a complaint was filed for domestic violence, Fernández stated.

Currently, the political advisor to far-right figures including Javier Milei in Argentina, Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil, Rodrigo Paz in Bolivia, and Nasry Asfura in Honduras is being held in the Palmasola prison in Santa Cruz, under preventive detention for 180 days.
