The International Documentary Film Festival of Marseille (FIDMarseille), recognized as one of the most prestigious gatherings dedicated to documentary cinema and new forms of author-driven filmmaking, will celebrate its 37th edition from July 7 to 12 in the city of Marseille, France. This festival will bring together filmmakers, producers, critics, and film enthusiasts from around the globe, establishing itself as a key platform for contemporary documentaries. The official program includes international competitions, retrospectives, world premieres, and industry-focused activities.

Accreditations for both professionals and audiences are still open, and individual tickets for various screenings can also be purchased. The festival offers a unique chance to explore some of the most innovative proposals in documentary, experimental, and hybrid filmmaking being produced worldwide.

A Strong Connection to Chilean Cinema

Throughout its history, FIDMarseille has maintained a close bond with Chilean and Latin American cinema, showcasing works from notable filmmakers such as Ignacio Agüero, José Luis Torres Leiva, María Paz González, and Antonia Rossi.

One of the festival’s memorable milestones occurred in 2016 when Ignacio Agüero won the Grand Prize in the International Competition with Como me da la gana II, a work that marked a turning point in his filmography by delving into a more experimental cinematic quest. This year, the acclaimed Chilean documentary filmmaker returns to the festival for the world premiere of his latest film, Carta a mis padres muertos (2025).

On the other hand, José Luis Torres Leiva has built a long-standing relationship with the festival. In 2008, he participated in the official competition with El cielo, la tierra y la lluvia, a fictional work with strong documentary sensibility. He later served on the festival jury, and since then, FIDMarseille has become a regular space for the international premiere and circulation of his films.

An Invitation to Discover Exceptional Author Cinema

Beyond its film program, FIDMarseille represents a cultural experience that allows attendees to discover one of the most dynamic and multicultural cities in France. Marseille, with its Mediterranean identity and vibrant artistic scene, provides the ideal backdrop for one of the most influential festivals in the international author cinema circuit.

Those in Europe still have time to register or purchase tickets to enjoy a program renowned for its quality and its ability to anticipate new trends in global documentary cinema.
