On Wednesday, September 9, the municipality of Puente Alto hosted a significant political milestone with the official integration of the movements Firmes por Chile and Izquierda Cristiana into the ranks of Voluntad para Chile.
The event was attended by Matías Toledo, the mayor of Puente Alto, and Joel Olmos, the municipal leader of La Cisterna, both recognized leaders of Voluntad para Chile.
During the ceremony, Cristóbal Barra and Bárbara Sepúlveda, former members of PPD and leading figures of Firmes por Chile, addressed the audience to discuss the challenges facing this emerging collective.
Both leaders emphasized that this union is not merely an electoral alliance but the establishment of a truly natural political space «for all those who are committed to defending the historical values of the people and the homeland.»
They noted that in light of the current complex scenarios, the public «demands an alternative that places human dignity and social justice at the center of political action, building from the territories a solid trench against individualism and in favor of popular sovereignty.»
Speaking on behalf of Izquierda Cristiana, Manuel Jaques highlighted the historical significance of this step. He pointed out how the long-standing trajectory and accumulated experience of his political sector enrich the energy, freshness, and vision of new generations.
Jaques placed special emphasis on the importance of emerging and consolidated leaderships, such as Mayor Matías Toledo in Puente Alto, suggesting that the convergence of social and Christian left with new independent movements marks the beginning of a management deeply rooted in the real needs of communities.
Mayor Matías Toledo expressed his profound joy at witnessing how Voluntad para Chile continues to expand and attract diverse sectors of organized society across the country.
In an emotional speech, he elaborated on the deep significance of this growth, stating that politics makes sense only when it becomes a genuine tool to serve the community, not to exploit it.
He also stressed that «these types of alliances demonstrate that it is possible to build bridges between different social, union, territorial, and political sensitivities under a common purpose: transforming the municipalities and the country from the grassroots, returning decision power and hope to the working families of Chile.»
