Former Senate Candidate Manuel Anabalón Faces Legal Repercussions for False Accusations Against Environmental Leaders in Aysén

Through a social media post, the Protect and Defense Network of Patagonia reported that former Senate candidate for the Christian Social Party, Manuel Anabalón – known as ‘Chilote Manolo’ – had to remove a series of posts from his social media accounts where he made false accusations against a group of environmental leaders in Aysén.

«To avoid a ruling against him, former Senate candidate Manuel Anabalón deleted his posts where he falsely accused environmental leaders in Aysén of receiving 500 million pesos from abroad. His own lawyer advised him to do so today during the hearings at the Court of Appeals in Coyhaique,» states the report from the Network.

The publication adds, «his defense attorney advised him to take down the accusations against Daniel Caniullán, Nelson Millatureo, Peter Hartmann, and Paolo Matissine for allegedly receiving 500 million to oppose the salmon industry.»

Indeed, it was confirmed that the individual removed the videos that prompted the legal action (protection resource) filed by the accused before the Court of Appeals of Coyhaique.

Regarding this, Karina Riquelme, attorney for the plaintiffs, commented that «what Manuel Anabalón said is so false that even his lawyer recommended removing the post,» which he, however, kept online throughout the process.

«Manuel Anabalón acknowledged the resource, admitting the publication and blaming TVN, claiming that he merely replicated what the channel said, maintaining the post throughout the resource processing, permanently affecting the rights of those appealing. But during the hearing, he changed his version, submitting to what was presented in the resource, recognizing that his statements are false and harm the honor of Daniel, Peter, Nelson, and Paolo,» detailed the lawyer.

The attorney also added that «even though it has been deleted, as we have effectively confirmed, the action itself produced effects as he acted in bad faith with the post and then during the entire process he capitulated at the last minute so that the resource would lose its opportunity. We hope that the Court recognizes these effects,» emphasized Karina Riquelme.

Aggressive Interruption at a Discussion Forum

Manuel Anabalón had already made headlines in 2022 for aggressively interrupting a discussion forum during the first constitutional process.

The incident, which occurred in Puyehue, was reported by La Voz de los que Sobran: «During an informational discussion about the new Constitution, Stingo was interrupted by five individuals who used verbal and physical violence to sabotage the event. After the incident, it was discovered that the attacks were premeditated and incited via social media,» stated the mentioned media.

It was further indicated that «one of the individuals who led the sabotage during the forum was Manuel Anabalon, known in his circles as Chilote Manolo. Through his social media, he is recognized for his constant Pinochetist statements that incite hatred,» warns the publication.
