Following the attack by Israeli settlers on a disabled Palestinian farmer, UN Special Rapporteur for Palestine Francesca Albanese has called for international protection, emphasizing that it is «absolutely urgent.»

«An international protective presence in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza is absolutely urgent,» stated the Italian lawyer in a message shared on her social media account X, accompanied by a video showing colonists brutally attacking Saeed al-Amur, an elderly Palestinian with disabilities who was leaning on crutches.

The footage recorded on the ancestral lands of Masafer Yatta in Hebron, South of the West Bank, highlights the uncontrollable escalation of violence affecting vulnerable Palestinian communities in the areas occupied by the Zionist regime.

According to Público, the attack was confirmed by the Israeli Police last Sunday, who reported the arrest of a 16-year-old for hitting an amputee Palestinian with a stick in southern Hebron. His 17-year-old companion, who recorded the incident on his cell phone, was placed under house arrest.

In her message, Albanese reminded the international community of its legal obligations by citing the recent advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which declared Israel’s continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territories illegal.

She also emphasized that «third states have the obligation, according to the ICJ, to act to end Israel’s illegal occupation.«

The attack carried out in Masafer Yatta is not an isolated incident; rather, it is part of the documented escalation of violence perpetrated by settlers throughout the occupied West Bank.

Human rights organizations have repeatedly indicated that these aggressions occur within a framework of nearly absolute impunity and often have the passive or active support of the Israeli military. This situation creates a systematic atmosphere of terror that severely impacts farmers and Palestinian residents of the region.

Since the intensification of Israel’s aggression against Gaza in October 2023, the forces of the Zionist regime have subjected the region to an extensive wave of aerial bombings, resulting in massive destruction of homes and infrastructure, and forcing the ongoing and forced displacement of the civilian population, as reported by HispanTV.

In this context, Palestinian authorities report that the Israeli genocidal offensive, launched on October 7, 2023, has already resulted in over 73,420 deaths and 174,369 injuries, with women and children being the primary victims of this devastating military campaign.
