In an interview with El Desconcierto, Recaredo Gálvez, a researcher at Fundación SOL, analyzed the Chilean government’s «Miscellaneous Law» proposal by Kast and warned that it overlooks several structural problems in Chilean society, such as low wages, lack of guaranteed access to health care, education, and housing, as well as the weak bargaining power of workers.
«There is really no national reconstruction plan behind this; it is a plan to boost the accumulation of large capital,» Gálvez stated, noting that Kast’s project is heavily focused on benefiting the top of the social pyramid.
«This government proposal is not aligned with the main challenges currently faced in Chile, which relate to low salaries, the limited capacity of workers to negotiate better wages, or to access timely health care, guaranteed education as a right, or housing that is not constantly exposed to market fluctuations and the accumulation practices of construction companies,» the researcher stated.
