Original article: Tras tensiones internas con ministra Marín: Gobierno confirma salida de Daniela Castro (RN), subsecretaria de la Mujer y la Equidad de Género
A new cabinet reshuffle was announced on Tuesday, June 16, revealing the resignation of Daniela Castro (RN), the Undersecretary for Women and Gender Equity, amid heightened tensions within the ministry.
Currently, national media reports indicate allegations of mistreatment, threats of dismissal, and other political tensions involving Minister Judith Marín of the Christian Social Party. Some news reports suggested that the turmoil stemmed from «differences in work styles» between the Minister and the Undersecretary.
In this context, a report from Radio Biobío highlighted that Castro had previously expressed concerns within RN circles regarding the ministry’s functioning and her relationship with Minister Marín. Her criticisms pointed to a «lack of autonomy in performing her duties» and a «deterioration of workplace harmony,» which she reported ultimately made her position untenable.
Employees also voiced their opinions. Paulina Cid, President of the National Association of Employees of the Ministry of Women (Anfummeg), released a public statement expressing concern that the ministry is «under crossfire, questioned not for its actions or the essential role it plays for women in Chile and for democracy, but as if it were merely another political prize. This must stop.»
«We want to be very clear: as workers of the ministry, we have not witnessed any mistreatment by the minister or her advisers. What we have observed, and have repeatedly pointed out, is a decline in internal management associated with new leaderships and positions established under the Undersecretariat’s responsibility,» the statement adds.
«This ministry cannot continue to be used as a battleground for political disputes. It cannot continue to bear the costs of poor internal management. It cannot keep being questioned for the faults of those who have not met their responsibilities,» the employees asserted. Read their complete statement below (Instagram):
In addition to the resignation of the Undersecretary for Women, the government confirmed Carolina Rossi as the Undersecretary for Science, a position she has held in an acting capacity and whose ratification took longer than expected.
It is worth noting that only a few weeks ago, two other undersecretaries resigned from the Ministry of Security following the arrival of the new Minister Martín Arrau: Undersecretary for Security Andrés Jouannet and Undersecretary for Crime Prevention Ana Victoria Quintana.
