Original article: Familia Hernández Norambuena denuncia que Gobierno de Kast infringe legalidad y sigue sin trasladar a Mauricio a Rancagua
With deep concern, the Hernández Norambuena family denounced on Saturday, July 4, 2026, that the Chilean Government has failed to execute the transfer of Mauricio Hernández back to Rancagua prison, despite the 10-day deadline set by the 7th Guarantee Court of Santiago expiring today. In a public statement, the family emphasized that «this demonstrates that, in Mauricio’s case, the Chilean Government does not hesitate to violate the law.»

The family revealed that during this period, Gendarmería has filed various legal motions aimed at preventing Hernández’s return to Rancagua. «The latest request was made yesterday, utilizing what can only be described as a legal maneuver, seeking an order to not change the status quo until their appeals are processed, which would prevent Mauricio’s transfer to Rancagua,» they stated. This request and the order regarding the status quo are expected to be resolved next week by the Court of Appeals of Santiago.
Family members warned that every day Mauricio remains in the high-security prison in Santiago (REPAS) constitutes «inhumane treatment and a violation of his right to health, exacerbated by his isolation and status as a senior citizen (68 years old),» as highlighted in Gendarmería’s own report. Human rights organizations have raised alarm over Hernández’s prison conditions due to the harsh detention environment.
In conclusion, the family condemned the ongoing discrimination against their brother and hold Gendarmería, President José Antonio Kast, and Public Security Minister Martín Arrau accountable for his health and life. Mauricio Hernández, a member of the Manuel Rodríguez Patriotic Front (FPMR), was convicted for the murder of Senator Jaime Guzmán in 1991 and has faced numerous judicial and political discussions in recent years.
