«I Heard Screams Every Day», stated Spanish activist Saif Abu Keshek, as he denounced the tortures inflicted by Israeli agents on Palestinian prisoners in the facility where he was illegally detained by the Zionist regime for 10 days.

After widespread mobilizations, protests, and international pressure, Abu Keshek was released alongside human rights defender Thiago Ávila, following their abduction by Israel during the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla.

The international humanitarian convoy departed on April 12, 2026, from the Moll de la Fusta port in Barcelona, heading to Gaza through the Mediterranean, including stops in Italy, Greece, and Turkey. However, a week later, Israel attacked 23 flotilla vessels less than 80 nautical miles off the coast of the Greek island of Crete, and during this aggression, 181 civilians were kidnapped and taken to the Israeli ship Nahshon and subsequently released, except for Ávila and Saif Abu Keshek, who remained in detention under Benjamin Netanyahu’s regime for 10 days, accused of having links to the Hamas movement, claims both have strongly denied.

Upon arriving at Barcelona airport, the Spanish-Palestinian activist provided a harrowing account of his experiences in the Israeli detention center.

«Our greatest concern is for the thousands of Palestinian prisoners who are left behind, abandoned, defenseless, tortured and continuously violated. While I was in this interrogation center, I could hear the screams daily caused by the torture inflicted by Israeli agents,» he reported.

«Our priority must remain humanity; we must continue defending people wherever they are because rights belong to everyone and are not exclusive to any group. Israel violates human rights at any time and place. What we witnessed during our interception is the result of impunity, a consequence of the complicity of governments that allow Israel to act as it does,» he asserted.

He recounted that during the interrogations he endured while detained, he asked Israeli agents about the presence of military occupation in the territories seized by the Zionist regime following the so-called «Six-Day War» of 1967.

«They told me they are a protective force. When I asked them about the settlers, they said those are citizens; to them, Palestine does not exist,» he stated.

Saif Abu Keshek to Rejoin Global Sumud Flotilla

Saif Abu Keshek is expected to meet with his fellow activists from the flotilla in Turkey in the coming days to continue the trek to Gaza, aimed at breaking the Israeli blockade and delivering humanitarian aid,

«I am arriving in Barcelona to pack my bag to rejoin my colleagues in Turkey in a few days because our journey has just begun,» he noted.

«What we want is for people to talk about, to tell what is happening in Palestine every day and continue breaking the blockade. We must recognize the importance of insisting and repeating our actions to once again demonstrate that the only illegality that exists is the crimes committed by Israel,» the activist emphasized in a video shared by the digital outlet Viory.

He also expressed gratitude to the 180 men and women aboard the flotilla who stood by him during his abduction,

«The screams and blows they made as a protest to my detention gave me energy to confront the injustice,» he asserted, while also recognizing the efforts of his legal team and the international pressure that led to the release of both him and Thiago Ávila.
