Through a statement, the Union of Honorary Workers at the National Institute of Statistics (INE) expressed their deep concern and rejection of what they described as the «abandonment» they are facing following the discontinuation of funding for the Diversity Survey and the Labor Survey—decisions made by Kast’s government that have resulted in the dismissal of entire work teams.
In their declaration, the Union affirmed that «what is happening today is not an isolated event, but rather the most evident expression of the structural precariousness affecting honorary workers.»
They continued, stating, «We are utilized by state institutions while we remain functional, only to be discarded without accountability when we cease to be economically viable. We are abandoned without guarantees, without job continuity, and without recognition, despite being an essential part of the production of official statistics.»
In this context, the honorary workers reported a «flagrant violation of collective defense agreements that should have been upheld in a transversal manner, based on commitments made with Anfine and Anifech on December 18, 2025.»
«It is incomprehensible to see that leaders with job security and union hours have not lived up to their responsibilities, omitting real defense against unilateral governmental decisions that— as we know—do not respond to technical or budgetary criteria but rather ideological definitions that jeopardize key information for the country,» they emphasized.
Finally, the workers clearly warned the entire INE community: this governmental attack will not stop at honorary workers. «What is happening to us should have already sparked a transversal union alert. Today it is us; tomorrow it will be contracted workers,» they stated.
At this point, they warned that «within the institution, there are more than 300 officials who lack legitimate trust and are already under scrutiny. The pattern is clear, and the risk is imminent.» Read the full statement below:
