Original article: “El estrecho de Ormuz jamás volverá a ser como era, sobre todo para EE.UU. e Israel”: Irán impone un nuevo orden en el golfo Pérsico
The Naval Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Iran stated on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz will «never return to its previous state, especially for the United States and Israel,» according to their commander via social media.
At the same time, Iranian authorities have implemented a plan to «establish a new order in the Persian Gulf,» with operational preparations nearing completion, as HispanTV reported, citing IRGC sources.
This announcement marks a strategic hardening from Tehran, which has already intensified restrictions on vessel traffic amid the ongoing conflict between the United States and Israel against the Islamic nation, amidst Trump’s desperation and threats.
According to Actualidad RT, the IRGC emphasized that the strait—vital artery through which nearly one-fifth of global oil passed before the conflict—is now only open to vessels not participating in the war against Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi specified that passage has been granted to China, Russia, India, Iraq, and Pakistan, while vessels from the U.S., Israel, and their allies are banned from transit. “There is no reason to allow our enemies to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” the minister stated, as reported by local media.
The restrictions imposed by Iran have already led to a significant rise in global energy and commodity prices, with experts warning that the impact could reach historic levels if the confrontation persists.
The commander of the IRGC Navy, as noted by HispanTV, insisted that Iran controls the strait and «dictates the terms of war and peace,» reaffirming a total closure to ships coming from or heading to ports in countries that are complicit with U.S. and Israeli aggressors. Iran’s position, supported by rapid boat maneuvers in the area, aims to consolidate a new strategic balance in the Persian Gulf.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has postponed his threats against Tehran, warning that if the strait is not reopened by Tuesday, April 7, at 8:00 PM Eastern Time (03:30 Wednesday in Iran), “they will have no power plants or bridges standing.”
According to DW, Trump moved back the ultimatum initially set for Monday, April 6, and cryptically posted on his Truth Social: «Tuesday, 8:00 PM,» without the White House clarifying the significance of the message.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump indicated that “there is a good chance” of reaching an agreement by Monday, but if that fails, “we will see how bridges and power plants collapse throughout Iran.” He also guaranteed “immunity” to Iranian negotiators to protect them from U.S. or Israeli attacks, while stating in a Wall Street Journal interview that the U.S. is “in a very strong position” and that Iran “will need 20 years to rebuild.”
Hours earlier, the Republican had posted a high-voltage message on Truth Social: “Open the damn strait, you crazy bastards, or you will live in hell! You will see! Praise be to Allah.
Trump’s erratic style, which has seen him continue postponing his own deadlines while intensifying his belligerent tone, asking Congress for a 40% increase in military spending at the expense of social programs, contrasts sharply with Iran’s firmness, which shows no signs of yielding to pressure.
According to CNN, Trump defined Tuesday as “the Day of Power Plants and the Day of Bridges, all in one,” in rhetoric aimed at forcing the reopening of the strait without providing a clear diplomatic route so far. However, several allied countries, even within NATO, have dismissed the idea of sending naval forces to the area, undermining the threat of an international coalition Trump had suggested.
The international community is watching with concern the rising energy prices and the risk of a large-scale military escalation, especially as Trump hints that the war against Iran—initiated on February 28—could end «in a matter of days, not weeks.»
Bernie Sanders labeled Trump as “dangerous and mentally unstable” in a post on X. “A month after the war began, this is the U.S. President’s statement on Easter Sunday. These are his ramblings. Congress must act now, let’s put an end to this war,” he emphasized, according to La Vanguardia.
An old friend of Trump, former Republican legislator Marjorie Taylor Greene also spoke about intervening due to the president’s alienation, asking his associates to “ask God for forgiveness.”
Chris Murphy, another Democratic senator, insisted: “If I were a member of his cabinet, I would be calling constitutional lawyers to invoke the 25th Amendment” (which allows for the incapacitation of a president), La Vanguardia also noted.
