Iran Presents a 14-Point Peace Plan to End the War

The Islamic Republic of Iran, via Pakistan as an intermediary, formally submitted a 14-point response to the United States’ 9-point proposal, as reported by the Fars news agency on May 2. This roadmap aims to end what Tehran describes as the «imposed war.» Sources cited by Fars indicated that the message was sent after the usual decision-making processes within Iran’s political framework were completed.

The Iranian plan, also disclosed by the Tasnim agency, includes specific demands such as guarantees against military aggression, the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the area surrounding Iran, lifting the naval blockade, and the release of frozen Iranian assets. Furthermore, Tehran is seeking compensation payments, a complete lifting of sanctions, an end to hostilities on all fronts—including Lebanon—and the establishment of a new management mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz.

While Washington proposed a two-month ceasefire, Iran insists on addressing the core issues within a 30-day timeframe, aiming for a definitive resolution of the conflict rather than a prolonged truce. Fars emphasized that the ongoing dialogue through Pakistan, despite distrust towards the U.S. side, demonstrates Iran’s seriousness and confidence in defending its national interests.

The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, confirmed during a meeting with foreign ambassadors in Tehran that a formal proposal aimed at a definitive cessation of hostilities has been issued, as reported by Al Mayadeen Español. Gharibabadi emphasized that the ball is now in the U.S. court, urging it to opt for a diplomatic solution or continue its confrontational strategy.

In the context of this diplomatic push, Gharibabadi participated in a trilateral meeting with the ambassadors of China and Russia, followed by discussions with other diplomatic representatives. However, the Deputy Minister highlighted Iran’s cautious stance due to skepticism and distrust towards the U.S., questioning the sincerity of any diplomatic efforts proposed by Washington. He also reiterated Iran’s full readiness to resist and respond to any form of aggression.

Finally, the official indicated that Iran is prepared for any eventuality: to reach a political solution or face direct confrontation, stressing that the responsibility for determining the course of action lies with the U.S. government. In the meantime, President Donald Trump stated, according to Al Mayadeen, that he is reviewing «the concept of the agreement» and is awaiting the exact wording. Tehran is now waiting for Washington’s official response to its 14 points.
