Iran refuses to negotiate under conditions of attack and demands the end to the blockade imposed by the United States (US) on its ports before returning to the negotiation table.
Tehran declined this Sunday to participate in a second round of talks with Washington in Pakistan, following a U.S. attack on the Iranian vessel «Tosca» in the waters of the Gulf of Oman, which the Islamic nation described as an act of «armed piracy,» vowing to respond promptly.
It is worth noting that Iran presented the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump with a 10-point plan that the Republican magnate accepted, promising to ensure no aggression, respect Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz, accept uranium enrichment, lift all primary and secondary sanctions, repeal all UN Security Council resolutions and IAEA Board of Governors, pay compensation to Iran, withdraw U.S. combat forces from the region, and stop the war on all fronts, including against the Islamic resistance in Lebanon.
This resulted in both parties agreeing to a ceasefire for two weeks, which expires in three days.
According to a correspondent from Al Mayadeen in Islamabad, there are no indications of a new round of negotiations in the coming hours, despite efforts by the Pakistani government with Washington and Tehran to reactivate discussions.
From the Persian nation, it has been indicated that, for now, there are no plans to participate in a forthcoming round of negotiations due to the lack of seriousness demonstrated by the U.S. in the diplomatic arena.
“At the moment, we do not have any plans for the next round of negotiations, nor has any decision been made regarding it,” noted the spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baqai, during a press conference.
Baqai emphasized that the failure to adhere to ceasefire agreements by Israel against Lebanon and the attempt by the U.S. to impose a maritime blockade on Iran, which resulted in the attack on the «Tosca» vessel, constitutes a clear act of aggression, a violation of the ceasefire negotiated by Pakistan, and collective punishment tantamount to a war crime and a crime against humanity.
“The U.S., by adopting contradictory positions and repeatedly violating the terms of the ceasefire, demonstrates a lack of commitment to the diplomatic process,” he stated, while recalling that “in less than nine months, Washington has attacked Iran’s integrity twice, during ongoing negotiations, violating international law, resulting in the martyrdom of dignitaries and citizens, and damaging national assets.”
The spokesperson pointed out that the North American nation continues to insist on its «unreasonable and unrealistic positions», particularly regarding the transfer of enriched uranium outside the Islamic Republic, indicating that this has never been an option for the country.
According to Trump, Tehran agreed to deliver 440 kilograms of enriched uranium, but the Iranian Foreign Ministry denied this and asserted that the reserves will not be transferred nor were they part of the negotiations, reported Al Mayadeen.
While the occupant of the White House announced the dispatch of a negotiating delegation to Islamabad headed by Vice President JD Vance with the intent to present a «reasonable agreement,» the Iranian spokesperson warned that “the Armed Forces will respond to any new venture [by the U.S.].”
“The protection of national interests will continue for as long as necessary, and in the case of any new act of adventurism by the United States or the Zionist regime, the Armed Forces will respond with full force,” he asserted.
From Tehran, it was made clear that any attempt to cross the Strait of Hormuz without permission, through which 20% of the crude oil traded in the world passes, will be regarded as cooperation with the enemy.
