Original article: Israel ataca el corazón gasífero de Irán y le mete más fuego a la crisis energética
Israel has launched a strike against the South Pars petrochemical complex, regarded as the heart of Iran’s gas industry, an act that not only represents a military blow to the Islamic Republic but also intensifies the flames of the global energy crisis sparked by the ongoing conflict in Western Asia.
South Pars, located in the city of Asaluyeh, is no ordinary facility. It is the Iranian segment of the world’s largest natural gas field, shared with Qatar across the Persian Gulf.
Following the attack, local media reported several explosions shaking the area, while Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the aggression.
In a statement, he indicated that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) «have just carried out a significant strike on Iran’s largest petrochemical plant, situated in Asaluyeh, a key target responsible for approximately 50% of the country’s petrochemical production, following last week’s attack on the second major plant.»
In his remarks, the Israeli minister provided a devastating assessment of the Iranian economy:
According to Katz, both facilities, which account for 85% of Iran’s petrochemical exports, «are now out of service and non-operational,» marking a significant economic blow for the Persian nation, as reported by RT.
Furthermore, he stated that the IDF has been ordered to continue “attacking with full force” Iran’s infrastructure.
In the wake of the assault, Iran’s news agency Tasnim reported that the South Pars petrochemical complex was not directly damaged, as the bombings targeted auxiliary facilities.
Tasnim detailed that the actual targets were the Mobin and Damavand companies, which provided essential services such as electricity, water, and oxygen to the main petrochemical plant.
Meanwhile, the Vice Governor of Bushehr stated that several petrochemical production units were impacted in the attack launched by the Zionist regime against the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone, an industrial center dedicated to the exploitation of the enormous gas field.
This is not the first assault by Tel Aviv on the South Pars complex. According to reports from June 2025 by the Tasnim agency, an Israeli drone struck Phase 14 of the field, causing a «massive explosion» and a fire that temporarily halted production. However, on that occasion, the Iranian Ministry of Oil indicated that the main refinery in Tehran remained «intact» and operational.
Tehran responded to that aggression with strikes against several refineries in Israeli territory.
Later, on March 18, Israel and the United States carried out a joint attack against the natural gas field.
However, this time tensions have escalated, with Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, issuing a stern warning to the governments of both countries, linking the military aggression to the failure of any diplomatic efforts to end the war that has persisted since February 28 when Washington and Tel Aviv attacked Tehran.
«Negotiations are incompatible with ultimatums, crimes, and threats,» he stated, as quoted by RT.
«Today marks 38 days of the war imposed by the United States and the Zionist regime [Israel] against the Iranian people, during which they have committed crimes that eclipse the greatest criminals in history,» emphasized Baghaei.
The spokesperson stressed the pattern of aggression against non-military targets, noting that Washington and Tel Aviv often attack civilian objectives, including universities and other educational and scientific centers, resulting in over 1,900 civilians killed, including women and children, and at least 20,000 more injured.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces have conducted retaliatory operations, targeting U.S. and Israeli positions in occupied territories and regional bases with waves of missiles and drones.
