Original article: “Es una falta de respeto”: Camila Vallejo critica a Kast por decir que “el país se cae a pedazos” y por no transparentar el recorte de US$ 6.000 millones
This Friday, government spokesperson Camila Vallejo launched strong criticisms against José Antonio Kast for insisting on promoting a catastrophic narrative about Chile, stating that the «country is falling apart,» and demanded transparency regarding the proposed $6 billion budget cut over 18 months by the Republican candidate.
During a campaign event that took place on Thursday night, the far-right politician attacked President Gabriel Boric’s administration, saying, «The most incredible thing is that this government had everything to do things right. It faced no pandemic, no outbreak, promised to fix everything, and has destroyed everything.»
In response to these comments, Vallejo accused Kast’s presidential campaign of spreading a «systematic narrative» aimed at criticizing and portraying a negative view of the current situation in Chile, labeling these remarks as «a lack of respect for the country.»
«Beyond what candidate Kast says about Chile falling apart, it’s disrespectful to the country,» she stated.
To counter the opposition’s drama, the government official emphasized that «the country is making progress and is growing.»
«Every government faces challenges, and we have collectively overcome them, which is why we should feel proud to be Chileans, as the country is indeed growing,» she argued.
She also highlighted the achievements made during Boric’s administration, noting «record levels of mining investments, high export figures, foreign capital inflows, increases in real incomes, reductions in working hours, the recovery of public spaces, and decreases in waitlists,» among other accomplishments.
«The country is growing and has made strides in care policies. Chile has collectively advanced with agreements on issues that have been pending for decades,» she concluded.
Vallejo was also questioned about the statements made by elected senator Rodolfo Carter, a collaborator of Kast, who claimed during a conversation on the program «Estado Nacional» on Vía X that Kast’s economic plan involves dividing the $6 billion budget cut «into three parts,» with about $2 billion relating to direct budget cuts.
However, he did not specify which items would be eliminated or how the significant cuts would be implemented in 18 months, as promised by Kast if he wins the presidency of Chile, stating, «If you say, ‘I will end program X,’ we will have the streets on fire the next day.»
Later, these statements were defended by Kast himself: «I support the elected senator saying he does not trust the current authorities at all,» affirmed the far-right candidate.
Concerning the idea of an economic program kept secret until after the election, Minister Vallejo was clear and maintained that «the statements made by command members are their responsibility; they need to clarify their words and remarks,» as reported by Bio Bío Chile.
However, she went further, taking a principled political stance: «Out of respect for our compatriots, there must be transparency and information about how proposals will be implemented. What is appropriate is for both candidates and their collaborators to inform the public with complete transparency,» stated Vallejo.
