Original article: Jara denuncia a Kast y su plan de recortes a los derechos sociales
The candidate concluded her tour in Coquimbo, outlining regional promises and attacking her opponent’s lack of transparency.
During her campaign closure in the Coquimbo Region, presidential candidate Jeannette Jara met with local residents at the Espejo de Agua plaza in Ovalle to detail her regional commitments and address the controversies surrounding her far-right opponent, José Kast.
In a press conference, when asked about comments from Rodolfo Carter, who acknowledged the existence of a budget cutting plan that is being kept hidden to avoid causing a «paralysis» in the country, Jara strongly condemned the statements. She asserted, «The remarks from Kast’s spokesperson are extremely serious, as they indicate a plan to implement cuts that will undoubtedly impact social rights,» she emphasized.
Jara added that this situation «confirms what we have been pointing out all this time, that their proposals are clandestine, hidden from the public,» insisting that this lack of transparency is critical, as a presidential candidate must be open and clear. To help the public grasp the seriousness of the issue, the candidate compared the magnitude of the $6 billion budget cuts that the far-right politician intends to make with existing social benefits. For instance, she detailed that this amount «is more than double the cost of free education,» which has an annual state expenditure of $2.7 billion, or nearly the total $6.5 billion required for the Guaranteed Universal Pension (PGU) for beneficiaries.
Regarding the controversy caused by her comments on the INNA project concerning the skies over Antofagasta and light pollution, the candidate stated that final decisions «must be made by listening to scientists and technicians.» While acknowledging her interest in ensuring that projects are carried out and that Chile needs more investment, she stressed that this «cannot be at the expense of astronomical considerations.» She closed by stating that the most important thing is to relocate the project, taking advantage of the vast land in the country, committing to seek an agreement that maintains a balance between economic development and the protection of astronomy.
When asked about the call from Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for the future president of Chile to be patient, Jara responded: «I believe it is very important for democracy to return to Venezuela.» She pointed out that her position has remained consistent since the beginning of her candidacy for the primaries, making it clear that democracy is necessary to «stop the migratory flow into our country,» she declared.
Concerning her commitments to the Coquimbo Region, the La Moneda candidate highlighted promises she gathered months ago, including the restoration of the Jorge Jordán Domic and Cerrillos de Tamaya healthcare centers in Ovalle, and the acceleration of the Provincial Desalination Plant of Limarí, which would benefit 70,000 people. Finally, Jeannette Jara defended her choice of this location for her campaign close, emphasizing that it represents Chile: «it is urban, it is rural, it is coastal, it is mountainous, it is hardworking people, and that is what we wanted to showcase at our closure,» she stated.
