Less than a month before entering preventive custody, former deputy Joaquín Lavín León faces new investigative angles presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

According to Mega channel, the Eastern Prosecutor’s Office has decided to include an inquiry into potential electoral crimes, stemming from «a complaint recently filed by the Electoral Service, which points to possible irregularities in campaign accounts and the potential misuse of electoral data».

Among the actions under investigation are the formal inclusion of two individuals identified in the inquiry «for alleged irregular hiring financed with public funds from the National Congress. One of them is Shigue Kazu Ogino Vargas,» the Mega report details.

«According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Ogino was hired as parliamentary support during the early months of 2021. However, the investigation claims he did not perform duties typical of the legislative function but was instead assigned solely to political and electoral activities linked to Lavín León’s environment,» the TV note adds.

At this point, it was indicated that records suggest that «while being paid with public congressional funds, Ogino would have worked from offices located at Apoquindo 3001, in Las Condes, a property that at that time served as the presidential campaign headquarters for Joaquín Lavín Infante, the father of the then-deputy».

The formal hearing regarding these issues will take place on July 8 at the Seventh Court of Appeals in Santiago, involving former deputy Joaquín Lavín León, former advisor Shigue Kazu Ogino Vargas, and Belén Esperanza Carrasco, partner of Arnaldo Domínguez, a trusted advisor to the legislator.
