Kast Government Faces Backlash After Revealing They Will Use Boric’s Security Plan
«The Kast government finally reveals its Security Plan: it’s Boric’s plan,» former minister Camila Vallejo stated on her X account after the announcement from newly appointed minister Martín Arrau, who declared that they will now operate using the strategy established by Gabriel Boric’s administration.
«We believe this policy is sufficient and comprehensive, providing room for certain policies, plans, and programs that can be implemented in the future. Therefore, our position will be to operate under this current policy,» Arrau stated, sparking a wave of reactions across the political spectrum.
«It seems like a joke, but it’s evident they never had a plan of their own,» Vallejo criticized, recalling that Kast and his allies «promised to resolve the security crisis with order and an iron fist, but we know those were merely campaign slogans.»
«The real priority of this government is not the safety of Chilean families, but its ideological agenda; to tie down an economic model for a quarter century by cutting social spending and boosting profits for a few,» the former spokesperson for La Moneda added.
In a similar tone, Gonzalo Winter, a congressman from the Frente Amplio, reminded everyone that Kast «spent nine years promising a plan that never existed.»
«His security advisors were publicists, not experts in organized crime. The outgoing minister admitted on radio that she never thought she would need to have a plan. The undersecretary got upset when asked to know about the plan. Today, the new minister confirms it: there was no plan, Boric’s plan is sufficient,» the parliamentarian stated.
Meanwhile, Daniel Manouchehri, a PS congressman, jokingly claimed that Kast «should invite Boric to the public account to explain the security plan.»
«Clearly, they are improvising. Their campaign was filled with supposed plans that were nothing more than communications memos and slogans,» the socialist legislator argued, warning that «the sole purpose of this government is to reduce taxes for the wealthy. The rest are just metaphors.»
Additionally, Carolina Tello, another FA congresswoman, noted it was «curious» that those who spent years claiming that Boric’s government lacked direction in security are now governing under the very National Public Security Policy they criticized so much.
«The truth is simple: they had no plan. They never had one. Because there is a difference between opposing with slogans and governing responsibly,» the Frente Amplio parliamentarian emphasized.
