Disapproval of Kast Hits 56.7% and Signals the Lowest Point of His Term

Disapproval of President José Antonio Kast has surged to its highest level since he took office on March 11, according to the latest edition of the Pulso Ciudadano survey conducted by Activa Research. The poll, reported by Radio Biobío, shows a 56.7% rejection rate, surpassing the previous highs of 55.6% in April and 53.3% in May. Concurrently, his approval rating has slipped to 30.5%, while 12.8% remain undecided. “This is the highest disapproval rating recorded by the president,” noted the media outlet.

The study, conducted from June 10 to June 12 with 1,036 respondents nationwide (with a margin of error of ±3.0%), also indicated a slight but statistically insignificant increase in high confidence towards the president (26.0% vs. 23.2% in May). However, a significant 53.4% of participants express “little to no” confidence in Kast, a figure that has remained virtually stable since April. Radio Biobío highlighted these findings as part of its coverage of the complex political landscape.

One contentious issue dividing public opinion is the seizure of accounts from CAE debtors with high incomes, a measure initiated on June 4 by the Treasury. In this context, 40.4% disagree with the action, while 37.4% support it, and 22.2% have no opinion. This policy affects 1,500 individuals earning over $3.5 million monthly, reigniting discussions regarding the government’s economic management.

The new peak in disapproval occurs amidst unfulfilled promises and administrative adjustments that have damaged the president’s image. Analysts suggest that while the fluctuations between April and June fall within the margin of error, they nonetheless signal a persistent downward trend. The public perception is heavily influenced by the lack of progress in security and economic issues.

With an approval rating barely reaching 30.5%, Kast is experiencing the lowest level of popularity since the beginning of his term. The Pulso Ciudadano survey reveals a fracture in public trust that could foreshadow significant legislative and social challenges in the coming months. The government has yet to issue an official statement regarding these results.
