Faith Now Comes with a Monthly Fee: Former mayor of Las Condes and presidential candidate, Joaquín Lavín Infante, is bringing spirituality into the everyday lives of Chileans—quite literally—with his new tech venture. Introducing «Santos x Chat», a system that allows users to converse via WhatsApp with five saints from the Catholic Church, all through an AI-powered chatbot.

The chatbot, which has yet to officially launch, has already begun its advertising campaign on social media and its website, sparking a debate about the boundaries between faith and digital commerce.

The project is presented under the slogan «Faith That Walks With You», focusing on providing an interactive experience based on the original writings of religious figures. As described by the platform, users will receive «an interactive immersion in the wisdom of the saints», encouraging personal reflection based on authentic works.

As reported by El Mercurio, the idea originated from Lavín himself, who initially experimented with artificial intelligence to share religious texts before pivoting to the conversational chatbot format.

The spiritual catalog includes five Catholic saints: Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Pio of Pietrelcina, and Carlo Acutis. Each saint, as promised by the website, «speaks with their unique voice».

The company assures that this is not a generic chatbot, but a spiritual guide constructed from over 3,300 writings that facilitate personalized responses for each user.

Subscriptions and Limitations: Faith for a Monthly Fee

Access to this tool will not be free, but will operate under a monthly subscription model. The most comprehensive plan costs $8,000 per month and provides access to all five saints, with a limit of 40 messages daily via WhatsApp, 24/7 availability, and access to conversation history.

For those seeking a more economical option, there is a $6,000 monthly plan that allows interactions with a single saint, capped at 25 messages per day.

The platform emphasizes that each response is based on the original writings of each saint, ensuring the chatbot is not perceived as a generic tool. «Each saint replies from their own writings», the website clarifies, highlighting that the service is «translated into an intimate and conversational language to accompany your prayer moments».

A Business Merging Faith, Technology, and Market, But No Miracle Included

Lavín’s proposal arrives at a time when artificial intelligence is permeating all aspects of daily life, and the religious sphere is no exception. However, the challenge for this venture will be to demonstrate that the added value of «Santos x Chat» justifies its cost, especially when numerous free resources for spiritual reflection exist, both online and within religious communities.

It remains to be seen whether the faithful will be willing to pay for a conversation that does not include a miracle.
