Lawmaker Cuello Proposes Bill to Reverse Fuel Price Hike
Lawmaker Luis Cuello (PC), along with opposition representatives, has introduced a constitutional amendment bill aimed at reversing the increase in fuel prices and reactivating the MEPCO program, with the goal of alleviating the financial burden on families.
Cuello emphasized: «There is an urgent need to lower fuel prices. Government measures have been mere stopgap solutions, insufficient and improvised, and citizens are noticing. It is now clear that the government is more focused on benefiting the top 1% of earners while neglecting the vast majority of families in the country.»
Specifically, the initiative seeks to incorporate a temporary provision into the Constitution to annul the decrees issued by the Executive — including those from the Ministries of Finance and Energy — that altered the calculation of fuel prices, thus allowing a return to the rates that were in effect as of March 25.
