On Friday, April 17, the resignation of Ángela Valdebenito was confirmed, who had taken office less than three weeks ago as the Secretary Regional Ministerial of Culture in Aysén.

According to Radio ADN, Valdebenito was officially announced on March 30 as part of the new appointees for the Ministry of Culture. However, just 19 days later, she decided to step down.

The confirmation came from Aysén’s Government Secretary, Bárbara Ortúzar, who stated that the resignation was due to «personal reasons.»

«At this moment, we are focused on compiling a new shortlist by the regional delegation to promptly appoint a new secretary and continue with sectoral work,» declared Secretary Ortúzar.

«We thank the Secretary for her service and wish her the best in her future endeavors,» added the government official.

In this regard, Radio ADN reports that despite the official explanation, «unconfirmed reports in the area suggested a potential review of her background, which may have revealed a mismatch between her professional experience and the requirements for the position.»
