Original article: Gobierno de Libia anunció inicio de procedimientos para expulsar de su territorio a integrantes del Convoy Summud Maghreb que permanecían detenidos
On Tuesday, June 23, the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced the commencement of legal and administrative procedures to expel 10 members of the humanitarian convoy Summud Maghreb who remained detained in Benghazi, located in the eastern part of the African nation.
This information was reported by the Nodal news agency and subsequently echoed by various international media, later confirmed by the release of Argentine volunteers Paula Giménez and Lucas Aguilera along with the other eight members of the convoy who had been held by local military authorities.
Paula Giménez is the research director for Nodal and regularly writes opinion columns for other outlets, including El Destape. «Together with Lucas Aguilera, they formed part of the international delegation aiming to highlight the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip,» noted El Destape, one of the newspapers covering the story.
«Argentine nationals detained in Libya have been freed, and they are demanding safe repatriation from the Milei government,» headlined the Chilean newspaper.
Nodal echoed this demand: «We urge the Argentine State to ensure all necessary conditions for Paula Giménez and Lucas Aguilera to return home safely and securely, providing the consular, health, psychological, and logistical assistance that is their obligation,» they stated.
«This announcement represents a significant advance, but it does not replace the urgent guarantees that must be provided immediately,» added sources from Nodal.
«We call for the announced procedure to be carried out immediately, transparently, and with guarantees for their physical and psychological integrity, including consular access, medical assistance, communication with their families, and safe conditions for their exit from Libyan territory,» emphasized Nodal.
